Light-up Legwarmers

As a dancer, I'm interested in finding new ways to add depth to motion. Formerly a scarf, these legwarmers express two dimensions of movement. First, white LEDs twinkle when the dancer's steps cause the conductive pompoms to connect with the conductive thread woven into the fabric, closing the circuit. Second, red LEDs light up when kicks and splits activate the tilt sensor.

In the next phase of the project, I plan to connect knit pressure sensors in the shoes to an Arduino to detect the force and speed of the dancer's steps. I expect different patterns will emerge on spins, jumps, and footwork that can be expressed through light.
